Celebration of the Civil Rights Act of 1964 presented by the City of Jacksonville and Jacksonville Human Rights Commission

In commemoration of the 50th anniversary of the signing of the Civil Rights Act of 1964, the City of Jacksonville’s Human Rights Commission is presenting the first in a series of events on Wednesday, July 2, 2014. There will be a reception at 5:30 PM in the Atrium of City Hall to be followed by a formal program beginning at 6:15 PM in the City Council Chambers. The program will include greetings from congressional representatives and dignitaries. The Honorable Brian J. Davis, United States District Judge, will be the keynote speaker.This special event will be an excellent opportunity for the citizens of Jacksonville to celebrate the benefits and accomplishments that followed the signing of this historic Act. It also represents an opportunity for us to acknowledge and re-affirm our commitment to ensure that we continue to live in a society that protects our civil rights.Additional community events will be planned through December 2014. Dates will be announced as they are confirmed.
